Why I Work at Maven

Since joining Maven 2 years ago, I’ve interviewed hundreds of people looking to join our team who almost all ask some variation of the same question: what does it feel like to work here? Having worked at several high-growth tech companies in both New York and San Francisco, my answer is always the same: Maven feels different.

That starts at the very top. I’ve never worked at a company where the CEO is a mom. I’ve never worked at a company where the majority of the employees, the majority of managers, and the majority of the Board of Directors are all women. But it continues throughout the organization. We’re a company dedicated to building a better healthcare experience for every family, everywhere, and we bring that vision to life here at Maven. I’ve never worked at a company that cares as much about its working parents as this one.

That feeling of pulling together, and truly celebrating another person’s success, because you know that success means a better experience for our patients — it’s palpable, and it makes this an incredibly rewarding place to work.

And the work you’ll do here is really important. You may already be familiar with some of the problems we’re trying to address. Today, Black women are three-times more likely to die in childbirth than white women, and American mothers overall are 50 percent more likely to die in childbirth than their own mothers were a generation ago. Many health insurance companies still require a diagnosis of infertility to allow patients to begin treatment — essentially denying LGBTQ people the chance at a family. Since the start of the pandemic, nearly 2 million women have left the workforce.

Maven is building products and services that address each of these challenges, and many, many others. These are issues that get right to the center of people’s hopes for their lives and for their families — and you’ll work on them every day. There simply aren’t that many companies that can offer that kind of opportunity, and in an environment that will support you at every step.
